SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Charles Joseph "Chuck" Zickus Jr. of
4Palos Hills, who passed away on October 14, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Chuck Zickus, the son of the Charles Joseph
6Zickus Sr. and Elenore (Masquelet) Zickus, was born on
7September 19, 1935; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Chuck Zickus proudly served as an air traffic
9controlman and petty officer in the U.S. Navy, where he was
10stationed aboard the U.S.S. Lexington CVA-16 during the Korean
11War; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Chuck Zickus continued his dedication to public
13service in various roles throughout his life, including as
14commissioner of the North Palos Fire Protection District,
15deputy sheriff of Cook County, and plant manager for the
16Prudential Building in Chicago; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Chuck Zickus was a devoted and supportive husband
18to his wife, Anne (Greenhoff) Zickus, who was a prominent
19leader in the Illinois House of Representatives, where she
20served with dedication for over a decade; he remained her
21loving and steadfast partner throughout her career and life;

2    WHEREAS, Chuck Zickus was a loving father, grandfather,
3and great-grandfather and a beloved member of his family; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Chuck Zickus will be remembered for his
5remarkable sense of humor, for always bringing joy to those
6around him, and for playing the role of Santa Claus with
7enthusiasm and love; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Chuck Zickus's legacy of service, humor, and love
9will live on in the memories of all who knew him; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Chuck Zickus was preceded in death by his
11parents; his brother, William Zickus; and his sisters-in-law,
12Joan Beasley and Adrienne Warneke; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Chuck Zickus is survived by his wife of 66 years,
14Anne; his daughter, Kathleen (Zickus-Martens), and his
15son-in-law, Terrence O'Shea; his son, Charles Joseph Zickus
16III; his grandchildren, Matthew (Krystal) Martens, Samantha
17Martens, Tony Hall, Charles Joseph "Chaz" Zickus IV, Eli
18Zickus, Ivy Zickus, and Jule Zickus; his great-grandson,
19Nathan Martens; his nieces and nephews, Dawn (Roy) Standish,
20Karen (Mark) Jellema, Ellie (Jim) Liebenow, Klaus (Michelle)
21Vogel, William (Valerie) Warneke, Martin (Sherry) Carlson,

1Joseph (Ann) Carlson, Catherine (Chris) Bousquet, Carolyn
2(Tom) Czarniak, and Christine (Todd Secki) Cummings; his many
3great-nieces and great-nephews; his sisters-in-law, Nancy (the
4late Michael) Cummings and Gail Carlson; and his bonus
5daughters, Paty (Ron Worth) Autullo and Candee Brooks-Geddie;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Charles Joseph "Chuck" Zickus Jr. and extend our heartfelt
10condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him; and
11be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Chuck Zickus as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy and respect.
