SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Maria de los Angeles Herrera of North
4Riverside, who passed away on June 25, 2024 at the age of 58;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Maria Herrera was born to Maria and Jose M.
7Herrera in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico on April 3, 1966; she
8was one of eight sisters; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Maria Herrera became a U.S. citizen in the late
101980s, and she resided in Cicero for a time; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Maria Herrera studied business administration at
12National Louis University; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Maria Herrera worked in customer service and gas
14transportation for Peoples Gas for approximately 30 years; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Maria Herrera was dedicated to serving the Latino
16community and volunteered with various non-profit
17organizations concerned with immigration issues; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Maria Herrera served as a catechist and adult
19faith facilitator; she participated in various other services

1at St. Mary Catholic Church in Riverside; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Maria Herrera resided with her husband, Matthew
3Brophy, in North Riverside; her first son, Gabriel, graduated
4from the University of Illinois with a degree in environmental
5stability and geology; her second son, Diego, is studying at
6the University of Illinois; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Maria Herrera is survived by her husband; her
8children; her siblings, Yolanda (the late Artemio), Isabel
9(Carlos), Roselia, Yrma (Manuel), Fanny (the late Jose Luis),
10Tereza (Pedro), Maria Luisa (James), and Alma (Ismael); and
11more than 40 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Maria de los Angeles Herrera and extend our sincere
15condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16her; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Maria Herrera as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
