SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Herman G. Bodewes of Springfield, who
4passed away on August 21, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Herman Bodewes, the son of Theodore and Meta
6(Rind) Bodewes, was born in Lemay, Missouri on July 25, 1937;
7he attended St. Libory Elementary School and graduated from
8Cathedral High School in Belleville in 1955; he married
9Carolyn Sue Brown in Farmersville on August 3, 1963; he earned
10his Juris Doctor from St. Louis University in 1964; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Herman Bodewes was a partner at the law firm of
12Giffin, Winning, Cohen & Bodewes for 58 years; he approached
13every case with the same unwavering dedication, regardless of
14the client's financial status or social standing or the nature
15of the case; throughout his prominent legal career, he
16received many awards from various organizations; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Herman Bodewes was an active, longtime member of
18Blessed Sacrament Parish; he was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and
19enjoyed gardening, political campaigning, and traveling; his
20greatest joy was spending time with his family on his farm; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Herman Bodewes was preceded in death by his

1parents and his brother, Bernard Bodewes; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Herman Bodewes is survived by his wife of 61
3years, Carolyn Bodewes; his daughters, Ann (Mike) Stephens,
4Christine Bodewes, and Karen (Kate Kent) Bodewes; his sons,
5Joe (Molly) Bodewes, Ted Bodewes, and Andrew (Nicole Livanos)
6Bodewes; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his
7brother, Paul Bodewes; and many nieces and nephews; therefore,
8be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Herman G. Bodewes and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Herman Bodewes as an expression of
16our deepest sympathy.
