1     AN ACT concerning vehicles.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5 Section 3-634 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-634)
7     Sec. 3-634. Illinois Fire Fighters' License Plate.
8     (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in
9 the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may issue
10 special registration plates designated to be Illinois Fire
11 Fighters' Memorial license plates. The special plates issued
12 under this Section shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles
13 of the first division, motor vehicles of the second division
14 weighing not more than 8,000 pounds, recreational vehicles as
15 defined in Section 1-169 of this Code, and subject to the
16 staggered registration system. Plates issued under this
17 Section shall expire according to the multi-year procedure
18 established by Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
19     (b) The design and color of the plates shall be wholly
20 within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The Secretary
21 of State may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be
22 issued as vanity plates or personalized in accordance with
23 Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
24 designate "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
25 Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary of State shall
26 prescribe stickers or decals as provided under Section 3-412.
27     (c) An applicant shall be charged a $27 fee for original
28 issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. Of
29 this additional fee, $15 shall be deposited into the Secretary
30 of State Special License Plate Fund and $12 shall be deposited
31 into the Illinois Fire Fighters' Memorial Fund. For each
32 registration renewal period, a $17 fee, in addition to the

1 appropriate registration fee, shall be charged. Of this fee, $2
2 shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License
3 Plate Fund and $15 shall be deposited into the Illinois Fire
4 Fighters' Memorial Fund.
5     (d) In addition to the purpose specified in Section
6 2-119(n), moneys in the Illinois Fire Fighters' Memorial Fund
7 shall, subject to appropriation by the General Assembly and
8 approval by the Secretary, be used for maintaining the Illinois
9 Fire Fighters' Memorial, for holding an annual memorial
10 commemoration and Medal of Honor ceremony and related
11 activities, and for providing scholarships to children of fire
12 fighters killed in the line of duty.

14     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
15 becoming law.
