 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  South   Suburban   Mayors   and   Managers
 3    Association (the Association) was incorporated in 1978; and

 4        WHEREAS,   The   Association   is  celebrating  its  25th
 5    Anniversary during the year 2003; and

 6        WHEREAS,  The   Association   currently   represents   43
 7    municipalities  and  650,000  residents  in southern Cook and
 8    Will Counties; and

 9        WHEREAS, The  Mayors,  Village  Presidents,  and  Village
10    Managers  of  these  communities  have worked tirelessly in a
11    cooperative effort to serve  the  southland  communities  and
12    their residents; and

13        WHEREAS, The Chicago Southland has benefited greatly from
14    the  leadership  exhibited  by  the  Association  through its
15    member municipalities and the Mayors, Village Presidents, and
16    Village Managers; and

17        WHEREAS, The Association has been critical in its support
18    to  municipalities  and  the  region   in   areas   such   as
19    transportation,     economic    development,    open    space
20    preservation, and stormwater issues,  finance  and  municipal
21    administrative  support,  training,  recycling,  housing, and
22    diversity  issues,  public  safety,  education  funding,  and
23    property tax reform, just to name a few; and

24        WHEREAS, On May 16, 2003, the Association  will  formally
25    recognize  its  past and current leaders and the achievements
26    of the organization at a dinner to be held at  the  Villa  de
27    Bruno in Lynwood; therefore, be it

28        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
29    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
30    we  congratulate  the  South  Suburban  Mayors  and  Managers

 1    Association  for  its  25  years  of service to the Southland
 2    region, and we commend the Mayors,  Village  Presidents,  and
 3    City and Village Managers who have served the Association and
 4    the region so well; and be it further

 5        RESOLVED,  That in recognition of the accomplishments and
 6    contributions to the citizenry of the State of Illinois  made
 7    by  the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association, we do
 8    proclaim May 16, 2003 as South Suburban Mayors  and  Managers
 9    Association  Day  throughout the State of Illinois; and be it
10    further

11        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
12    presented  to  Mr.  Edward  Paesel, Executive Director of the
13    South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association.
