 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of
 4    Cleo Dunaway Craig of Marion on Saturday, June 28, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS, Mrs. Craig was the  oldest  living  resident  of
 6    Illinois  and  was  the  third  oldest  person  in the United
 7    States; she was born in 1890 and graduated from  Marion  High
 8    School  in  1908; she taught school for a short time the next
 9    year; and

10        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Craig  worked  for   the   Marion   Daily
11    Republican  in 1917 while her husband, Edgar, fought in World
12    War I; she quit her job and spent  most  of  her  time  as  a
13    homemaker  after  her husband returned from fighting the war;
14    and

15        WHEREAS, Mrs. Craig and her husband attended the  Chicago
16    World's  Fair  in  the 1930s; she later attended the Montreal
17    and New York City World's Fairs; and

18        WHEREAS, Mrs. Craig was preceded in death by her  husband
19    and her only child, Elizabeth; and

20        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Craig  was known as the oldest fan of the
21    Chicago Cubs for which she received an autographed photograph
22    of Hall  of  Fame  Cubs  shortstop  Ernie  Banks;  she  could
23    remember  the  Cubs  last  World Series Championship in 1908;
24    therefore, be it

25        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
26    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
27    we mourn the passing of Cleo Dunaway Craig; and be it further

28        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
29    presented to the family of Mrs. Craig as an expression of our
30    deepest sympathy.
