HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Mary
4 Russell on Friday, October 17, 2003; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mrs. Russell was born on July 24, 1905 in Tate
6 County, Como, Mississippi to Council and Mary Edwards; she was
7 the last surviving of 16 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Edwards;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mrs. Russell was educated in Tate County; she
10 became a resident of Chicago in 1951; she worked as an
11 industrial laborer for Listen Industrial Factory; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mrs. Russell was a member of the Order of the
13 Eastern Star; she was a faithful and willing worker and member
14 of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church; she was the mother
15 of 8 children, 4 of whom preceded her in death; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Mrs. Russell will be remembered as loving
17 grandmother to 44 grandchildren; she gave each grandchild going
18 away to college and each grandchild getting married the gift of
19 a hand made quilt; and
 
20     WHEREAS, The passing of Mary Russell has been deeply felt
21 by many, especially her children, Laura Price, Catherine
22 Colvin, Leo Garrett, and A.G. (Katie) Garrett; and her
23 grandchildren, Martha Boyden, Kimberly Colvin, State
24 Representative Marlow Colvin, Milton Colvin, Myron Colvin,
25 A.G. Garrett, Jr., Bernard Garrett, Chester Garrett, Jr., Clark
26 Garrett, Deborah Garrett, Dr. Dennis Garrett, Frederick
27 Garrett, Gregory Garrett, Janine Garrett, Joe Garrett, Kenneth
28 Garrett, Melvin Garrett, Norman Garrett, Ronald Garrett, Roy
29 Garrett, Samuel Garrett, Vanessa Garrett, Veradene Garrett,
30 Clarissa Golden, Clara Hester, Katherine Johnson, Sharon Maul,

6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8 together with her family and friends, we mourn the passing of
9 Mrs. Mary Russell, and we extend our deepest sympathy to them;
10 and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Mary Russell as an expression of our
13 deepest sympathy.
