HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives congratulate Villa Park Chief of Police Ronald
4 R. Ohlson on his retirement after many years of dedicated
5 service; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Ronald Ohlson began with the Villa Park Police
7 Department in 1972 as a patrolman and quickly moved up through
8 the ranks serving as Police Liaison Officer, Detective,
9 Sergeant, and Lieutenant/Deputy Chief before becoming Chief in
10 1991; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Chief Ohlson graduated from the F.B.I Academy in
12 1993; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He was awarded "Police Officer of the Year" by the
14 Villa Park Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the State of
15 Illinois; and in 2001, he received the Illinois Public
16 Employees' Labor Relations Award; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Chief Ohlson has served as chairman of the Board
18 of the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force; he is the founder
19 and past executive board member of the DuPage County Crime
20 Commission; past executive board member of the Illinois Police
21 Association; past vice chairman of the DuPage County Children's
22 Center; past president of the Rotary Club of Villa Park and
23 DuPage County Chiefs of Police; and Sergeant at Arms of the
24 Illinois Chiefs of Police and the International Chiefs of
25 Police; and
 
26     WHEREAS, During his service as Chief of the Villa Park
27 Police Department, the Department received 1st place in the
28 State of Illinois Traffic Challenge and was recognized for
29 Community Policing programs for the National League of Cities
30 and DuPage County; and

1     WHEREAS, Chief Ohlson has instituted many programs
2 including the Gang Resistance and Education Training Program
3 (G.R.E.A.T.), the Seniors and Lawmen Together (S.A.L.T),
4 Citizens' Police Academy, the Crime Prevention Bureau, the
5 Traffic Accident Reduction Enforcement Team (T.A.R.G.E.T.),
6 the Youth Educational Shoplifting Program (Y.E.S.), the Teen
7 Police Academy, the School Bus Safety Program, and many others;
8 therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 congratulate Villa Park Police Chief Ronald R. Ohlson on his
12 retirement after many years of exemplary public service and
13 wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Chief Ronald R. Ohlson as an expression of our
16 respect and esteem.
