HOUSE RESOLUTION 771

 
2     WHEREAS, The family, serving as the primary source of love,
3 identity, self-esteem, and support, is the very foundation of
4 our communities and State; and
 
5     WHEREAS, In the State of Illinois there are 23,000 children
6 and youth in foster care being provided with safe, secure, and
7 stable homes along with the compassion and nurture of a foster
8 family; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Foster families who open their homes and hearts to
10 children whose families are in crisis play a vital role in
11 helping children heal and reconnect and launch children into
12 successful adulthood; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Dedicated foster families frequently adopt foster
14 children and leave the foster care system, resulting in a
15 greater need for more foster families; and
 
16     WHEREAS, There are numerous individuals and public and
17 private organizations that work to increase public awareness of
18 children in and leaving foster care; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The foster care system is only as good as those
20 who choose to be a part of it through the valuable contribution
21 of foster parents; therefore, be it
 
22     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
24 name May of 2004 Foster Care Month in the State of Illinois,
25 and that we urge all citizens to volunteer their talents and
26 energies on behalf of children in foster care, foster parents,
27 and child welfare professional staff during Foster Care Month
28 and throughout the year.
