HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of
3 cancer deaths in men and women combined in the United States;
4 and
 
5     WHEREAS, It is estimated that in the year 2004, nearly
6 147,000 new cases of colorectal cancer will be diagnosed in the
7 United States; and
 
8     WHEREAS, In the year 2004, the disease is expected to kill
9 over 56,700 individuals in this country; and
 
10     WHEREAS, An estimated 6,680 individuals in the State of
11 Illinois will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in the year
12 2004; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Screening for colorectal cancer is underutilized,
14 regular screenings can detect polyps that lead to colorectal
15 cancer and can save lives; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Adopting a healthy diet at a young age can
17 significantly reduce the risk of developing colorectal cancer;
18 and
 
19     WHEREAS, March is also designated as National Nutrition
20 Awareness Month; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Education can help inform the public of methods of
22 prevention and symptoms of early detection; and
 
23     WHEREAS, The State of Illinois should help inform the
24 public about colorectal cancer prevention and screening;
25 therefore be it
 
26     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2 hereby proclaim the month of March as Colorectal Cancer
3 Awareness Month in Illinois; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to the Cancer Research Prevention Foundation.
