HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate the Hitzeman
4 Funeral Home Ltd. on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The Hitzeman Funeral Home Ltd. has been serving
6 the residents of Chicago and the western suburbs with care,
7 compassion, and consideration since 1904; the Hitzeman name is
8 known throughout the Chicagoland community, not only for its
9 reputation of dignified service to people in grieving times,
10 but also for its community service and dedication to others;
11 the Hitzeman family is involved with area churches and schools
12 as well as the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce and the
13 Brookfield/LaGrange Park Lions Club; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Frederick H. Hitzeman came to the United States
15 from Germany as a child in 1882; in 1894, he married Pauline
16 Pechat, and in 1904, he started the Undertaking Business at
17 Keeler and 26th Street in Chicago; he used his home as his
18 chapel and horses and carriages were used for the funerals; in
19 1916, when they began using automobiles, Charles R. Hitzeman,
20 the third child of Pauline and Frederick, drove the hearse;
21 Charles became a partner in the business in 1928; and
 
22     WHEREAS, In 1945, Frederick received the deed for the
23 property in Brookfield that currently houses the business; in
24 1963, Norbert Hitzeman, the third generation to own the
25 business, opened the Hitzeman Funeral Home location in
26 Brookfield; for the next 13 years, the business maintained two
27 locations; in 1976, the location on 26th Street was sold; and
 
28     WHEREAS, In the fall of 1984, Norbert Hitzeman purchased
29 Hitzeman Funeral Home, P.C., from his father; in 1992, the name
30 of the business was changed to Hitzeman Funeral Home, Ltd., as
31 it was now a limited corporation; on September 18, 1995, Todd

1 Hitzeman bought the business from Norbert Hitzeman, making him
2 the fourth generation of Hitzemans to run the business; and
 
3     WHEREAS, In 2002, Charles T. "Chuck" Hitzeman graduated
4 from the Worsham School of Mortuary Science in Wheeling,
5 becoming the fifth generation of funeral directors in the
6 Hitzeman family; in addition, he's the fifth generation of
7 Lions Club members and was recently elected president of the
8 Brookfield/LaGrange Park Lions Club; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11 congratulate the Hitzeman Funeral Home, Ltd. of Brookfield on
12 the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the Hitzeman Funeral Home, Ltd. as an expression
15 of our respect and esteem.
