1 | AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 2133

2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 2133 by replacing | ||||||
3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4 | "Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section | ||||||
5 | 1A-17 as follows:
| ||||||
6 | (10 ILCS 5/1A-17 new)
| ||||||
7 | Sec. 1A-17. Grace period. Notwithstanding any other | ||||||
8 | provision of this
Code to the contrary, beginning January 1, | ||||||
9 | 2005, an election authority may
establish procedures, in | ||||||
10 | accordance with rules adopted by the State Board of
Elections, | ||||||
11 | for the registration of voters during the period from the close | ||||||
12 | of
registration for a primary or election and until the 14th | ||||||
13 | day before the
primary or election. During this grace period, | ||||||
14 | an unregistered qualified
elector may
register to vote in | ||||||
15 | person in the office of the election
authority or at a voter | ||||||
16 | registration location specifically designated for this
purpose | ||||||
17 | by the election authority of the jurisdiction in which
the | ||||||
18 | applicant resides. A registered voter may submit a change of | ||||||
19 | address form
during this period as well. The election authority | ||||||
20 | shall
register that individual in the manner provided by law. | ||||||
21 | The State Board of Elections shall adopt necessary rules | ||||||
22 | for election
authorities in the development of procedures under | ||||||
23 | this Section. ".
