1     AN ACT concerning water safety.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Public Water District Act is amended by
5 adding Section 7.3 as follows:
 
6     (70 ILCS 3705/7.3 new)
7     Sec. 7.3. Boil order, temporary shutoff, or Tier 1
8 notification; notification of certified local health
9 department required. If a public water district issues a boil
10 order, temporary water shut-off for commercial users, or other
11 Tier 1 notification concerning the potability or safety of
12 water, the district must give written notification to any
13 certified local health department that serves an area subject
14 to the order or warning as soon as is practical, but no later
15 than 2 hours after the district learns of the violation or
16 situation. The notification must include the estimated
17 duration of the order or warning and the geographic area
18 covered by the order or warning.
 
19     Section 10. The Water Service District Act is amended by
20 adding Section 5.2 as follows:
 
21     (70 ILCS 3710/5.2 new)
22     Sec. 5.2. Boil order, temporary shutoff, or Tier 1
23 notification; notification of certified local health
24 department required. If a water service district issues a boil
25 order, temporary water shut-off for commercial users, or other
26 Tier 1 notification concerning the potability or safety of
27 water, the district must give written notification to any
28 certified local health department that serves an area subject
29 to the order or warning as soon as is practical, but no later
30 than 2 hours after the district learns of the violation or

4     Section 15. The Water Authorities Act is amended by adding
5 Section 6c as follows:
 
6     (70 ILCS 3715/6c new)
7     Sec. 6c. Boil order, temporary shut-off, or Tier 1
8 notification; notification of certified local health
9 department required. If a water authority issues a boil order,
10 temporary water shut-off for commercial users, or other Tier 1
11 notification concerning the potability or safety of water, the
12 authority must give written notification to any certified local
13 health department that serves an area subject to the order or
14 warning as soon as is practical, but no later than 2 hours
15 after the authority learns of the violation or situation. The
16 notification must include the estimated duration of the order
17 or warning and the geographic area covered by the order or
18 warning.
 
19     Section 20. The Water Commission Act of 1985 is amended by
20 adding Section 2.5 as follows:
 
21     (70 ILCS 3720/2.5 new)
22     Sec. 2.5. Boil order, temporary shut-off, or Tier 1
23 notification; notification of certified local health
24 department required. If a water commission issues a boil order,
25 temporary water shut-off for commercial users, or other Tier 1
26 notification concerning the potability or safety of water, the
27 commission must give written notification to any certified
28 local health department that serves an area subject to the
29 order or warning as soon as is practical, but no later than 2
30 hours after the commission learns of the violation or
31 situation. The notification must include the estimated
32 duration of the order or warning and the geographic area

2     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
3 becoming law.
