1     AN ACT concerning water safety.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section
5 5-15025 as follows:
 
6     (55 ILCS 5/5-15025 new)
7     Sec. 5-15025. Boil order; notification of certified local
8 public health department required. If a county, or any
9 department or agency of the county, issues a boil order, then
10 the county must notify any certified local public health
11 department that serves an area subject to the boil order as
12 soon as is practical, but no later than 2 hours after issuing
13 the order. In addition to the initial notice, the county must
14 provide, to any affected certified local public health
15 department, a written notification within 24 hours after
16 issuing the boil order. The written notification must include
17 the estimated duration of the order or warning and the
18 geographic area covered by the order or warning.
 
19     Section 7. The Township Code is amended by adding Section
20 205-12 as follows:
 
21     (60 ILCS 1/205-12 new)
22     Sec. 205-12. Boil order; notification of certified local
23 public health department required. If a township, or any
24 department or agency of the township, issues a boil order, then
25 the township must notify any certified local public health
26 department that serves an area subject to the boil order as
27 soon as is practical, but no later than 2 hours after issuing
28 the order. In addition to the initial notice, the township must
29 provide, to any affected certified local public health
30 department, a written notification within 24 hours after

4     Section 10. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
5 adding Section 11-20-10.5 as follows:

7     Sec. 11-20-10.5. Boil order; notification of certified
8 local public health department required. If a municipality, or
9 any department or agency of the municipality, issues a boil
10 order, then the municipality must notify any certified local
11 public health department that serves an area subject to the
12 boil order as soon as is practical, but no later than 2 hours
13 after issuing the order. In addition to the initial notice, the
14 municipality must provide, to any affected certified local
15 public health department, a written notification within 24
16 hours after issuing the boil order. The written notification
17 must include the estimated duration of the order or warning and
18 the geographic area covered by the order or warning.
 
19     Section 15. The Public Water District Act is amended by
20 adding Section 7.3 as follows:

22     Sec. 7.3. Boil order; notification of certified local
23 public health department required. If a public water district
24 issues a boil order, then the district must notify any
25 certified local public health department that serves an area
26 subject to the boil order as soon as is practical, but no later
27 than 2 hours after issuing the order. In addition to the
28 initial notice, the district must provide, to any affected
29 certified local public health department, a written
30 notification within 24 hours after issuing the boil order. The
31 written notification must include the estimated duration of the

2     Section 20. The Water Service District Act is amended by
3 adding Section 5.2 as follows:
 
4     (70 ILCS 3710/5.2 new)
5     Sec. 5.2. Boil order; notification of certified local
6 health department required. If a water service district issues
7 a boil order, then the district must notify any certified local
8 public health department that serves an area subject to the
9 boil order as soon as is practical, but no later than 2 hours
10 after issuing the order. In addition to the initial notice, the
11 district must provide, to any affected certified local public
12 health department, a written notification within 24 hours after
13 issuing the boil order. The written notification must include
14 the estimated duration of the order or warning and the
15 geographic area covered by the order or warning.
 
16     Section 25. The Water Authorities Act is amended by adding
17 Section 6c as follows:
 
18     (70 ILCS 3715/6c new)
19     Sec. 6c. Boil order; notification of certified local health
20 department required. If a water authority issues a boil order,
21 then the authority must notify any certified local public
22 health department that serves an area subject to the boil order
23 as soon as is practical, but no later than 2 hours after
24 issuing the order. In addition to the initial notice, the
25 authority must provide, to any affected certified local public
26 health department, a written notification within 24 hours after
27 issuing the boil order. The written notification must include
28 the estimated duration of the order or warning and the
29 geographic area covered by the order or warning.
 
30     Section 30. The Water Commission Act of 1985 is amended by
31 adding Section 2.5 as follows:

2     Sec. 2.5. Boil order; notification of certified local
3 public health department required. If a water commission issues
4 a boil order, then the commission must notify any certified
5 local public health department that serves an area subject to
6 the boil order as soon as is practical, but no later than 2
7 hours after issuing the order. In addition to the initial
8 notice, the commission must provide, to any affected certified
9 local public health department, a written notification within
10 24 hours after issuing the boil order. The written notification
11 must include the estimated duration of the order or warning and
12 the geographic area covered by the order or warning.
 
13     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
14 becoming law.
