SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, It is with profound sadness that the members of
3 the Senate of the State of Illinois have learned of the death
4 of United States Marine Lance Corporal Aaron C. Pickering of
5 Harrisburg who died while proudly serving his country in combat
6 in Iraq; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Aaron Pickering was born on October 28, 1984, in
8 Harrisburg to Carl Pickering and Lisa Killman Short; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Pickering was attached to the 1st
10 Battalion, 3rd Marines, C Company, based in Okinawa, Japan,
11 proudly serving the nation as an infantryman; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Pickering was a graduate of
13 Harrisburg High School, having attended Marion High School
14 until his junior year; he joined the Marines after graduation;
15 and
 
16     WHEREAS, In high school, Aaron excelled in golf, finishing
17 52nd in the state meet his senior year, and was an avid hunter
18 and fisherman, winning first place in the 58th Illinois State
19 Championship Junior Goose Calling contest; and
 
20     WHEREAS, On November 10, 2004, Lance Corporal Pickering was
21 killed during combat operations to capture the Iraqi city of
22 Fallujah from Islamic insurgents and will be remembered by many
23 as a hero; and
 
24     WHEREAS, The passing of Lance Corporal Pickering has been
25 deeply felt by many, especially his mother and stepfather, Lisa
26 and Sam Short; father and stepmother, Carl and Theresa
27 Pickering; maternal grandmother, Chlola Killman, paternal
28 grandparents, Bill and Peg Pickering, paternal grandmother,
29 Bonnie Barton; stepbrothers, Travis Short, Dustin Short, Dylan

1 Short; stepsister Christine Harmon; aunts and uncles; and many
2 cousins and friends; therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
4 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor U.S. Marine
5 Lance Corporal Aaron Pickering for his commitment, dedication,
6 and sacrifice in the service of his family, community, and
7 country; and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
9 presented to the parents of Lance Corporal Aaron Pickering, as
10 an expression of our deepest sympathy for their loss.
