SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/27-12   from Ch. 122, par. 27-12

    Amends the School Code. Replaces provisions requiring teachers to teach students honesty, kindness, justice, discipline, respect for others, and moral courage with provisions requiring teachers to teach character education, which includes the teaching of respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, trustworthiness, and citizenship. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
5 27-12 as follows:
 
6     (105 ILCS 5/27-12)  (from Ch. 122, par. 27-12)
7     Sec. 27-12. Character education. Honesty, kindness,
8 justice and moral courage. Every public school teacher shall
9 teach character education, which includes the teaching of
10 respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, trustworthiness,
11 and citizenship in order to raise the pupils honesty, kindness,
12 justice, discipline, respect for others, and moral courage for
13 the purpose of lessening crime and raising the standard of good
14 character citizenship.

16     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
17 becoming law.
