| AN ACT concerning education.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section |
| 5 |
| 27-12 as follows:
|
| 6 |
| (105 ILCS 5/27-12) (from Ch. 122, par. 27-12)

| Sec. 27-12. Character education.
Honesty, kindness, |
| 8 |
| justice and moral courage.
Every public school teacher shall |
| 9 |
| teach character education, which includes the teaching of |
| 10 |
| respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, trustworthiness, |
| 11 |
| and citizenship, in order to raise pupils'
the pupils honesty, |
| 12 |
| kindness,
justice, discipline, respect for others, and moral |
| 13 |
| courage for the purpose
of lessening crime and raising
the |
| 14 |
| standard of good character
citizenship.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
