SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Arsenic in School Playgrounds Act. Provides that on and after January 1, 2006 no unit of local government or school district within this State shall construct or install any new playground equipment treated or containing the pesticide chromated copper arsenate.

1     AN ACT concerning safety.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5 Arsenic in School Playgrounds Act.
 
6     Section 5. Purpose. The General Assembly finds that wooden
7 playground equipment in this State is often treated with the
8 pesticide chromated copper arsenate, which acts as a chemical
9 preservative that protects wood from rotting due to insects and
10 microbial agents, and that the children of this State may be
11 exposed to the arsenic in chromated copper arsenate when the
12 children play on playground equipment treated with this
13 compound.
 
14     Section 10. New playground equipment. On and after January
15 1, 2006 no unit of local government or school district within
16 this State shall construct or install any new playground
17 equipment treated or containing the pesticide chromated copper
18 arsenate.
