SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-821.2

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that members of the United States Armed Forces and members of the Armed Forces Reserve and the National Guard who are ordered to active duty are not required to pay a delinquent registration renewal fee during a period in which a presidential executive order specifies that the United States is engaged in combat or homeland defense. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5 Section 3-821.2 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-821.2)
7     Sec. 3-821.2. Delinquent Registration Renewal Fee.
8     For registration renewal periods beginning on or after
9 January 1, 2005, the Secretary of State may impose a delinquent
10 registration renewal fee of $20 for the registration renewal of
11 all passenger vehicles of the first division and motor vehicles
12 of the second division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds if
13 the application for registration renewal is received by the
14 Secretary more than one month after the expiration of the most
15 recent period during which the vehicle was registered. If a
16 delinquent registration renewal fee is imposed, the Secretary
17 shall not renew the registration of such a vehicle until the
18 delinquent registration renewal fee has been paid, in addition
19 to any other registration fees owed for the vehicle. Active
20 duty military personnel stationed outside of Illinois shall not
21 be required to pay the delinquent registration renewal fee. A
22 member of the United States Armed Forces is not required to pay
23 the delinquent registration renewal fee during a period in
24 which a presidential executive order specifies that the United
25 States is engaged in combat or homeland defense. A member of
26 the Armed Forces Reserve or the National Guard who has been
27 ordered to active duty is not required to pay the delinquent
28 registration renewal fee during a period in which a
29 presidential executive order specifies that the United States
30 is engaged in combat or homeland defense. If a delinquent
31 registration renewal fee is imposed, the Secretary shall adopt
32 rules for the implementation of this Section.
