SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/12-601.2 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that any authorized emergency vehicle must be equipped with a traffic control signal preemption device. Provides that the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity shall adopt rules regarding the reimbursement of any unit of local government that may not be able to afford the expense of the required equipment.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation, which may be referred to
2 as the Dorian Riley Law.
 
3     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
 
5     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
6 Section 12-601.2 as follows:
 
7     (625 ILCS 5/12-601.2 new)
8     Sec. 12-601.2. Traffic control signal preemption devices;
9 authorized emergency vehicles.
10     (a) Any authorized emergency vehicle, as defined in Section
11 1-105, must be equipped with a traffic control signal
12 preemption device, as defined in Section 12-601.1.
13     (b) The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity
14 shall adopt rules regarding the reimbursement of any unit of
15 local government that may not be able to afford the expense of
16 the required equipment.
