SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
220 ILCS 5/13-704.5 new

    Amends the Telecommunications Article of the Public Utilities Act. Requires each telecommunications carrier to include a notice on each billing statement for customers for which the carrier provides wireless service recommending that the customer program an emergency contact telephone number under the title "ICE" in the customer's telephone address book in order to facilitate contact by emergency personnel with the customer's preferred emergency contact person. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Public Utilities Act is amended by adding
5 Section 13-704.5 as follows:
 
6     (220 ILCS 5/13-704.5 new)
7     Sec. 13-704.5. ICE (In Case of Emergency) notice. Each
8 telecommunications carrier, on at least one page of a billing
9 statement that sets forth charges assessed against a customer
10 by the carrier for wireless telecommunications service, shall
11 include a notice recommending that the customer program an
12 emergency contact telephone number into his or her telephone
13 address book under the designation "ICE" in order to facilitate
14 contact by emergency personnel with the customer's preferred
15 emergency contact person.
 
16     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
17 becoming law.
