HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Lamont A. Thompson retired from the Chicago Police
3 Department after 35 years on the force on February 15, 2005; a
4 celebration will be held in his honor on March 30, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson joined the Chicago Police Department
6 in November of 1969; he worked on the Area One Task Force from
7 1970 to 1971 and transferred to the Fourth Police District in
8 1971, where he was assigned to the tactical team and worked for
9 five years until being promoted to Field Training Officer in
10 1976; he provided leadership and guidance to new officers
11 assigned to the Fourth Police District; and
 
12     WHEREAS, In April of 1981, he was promoted to Sergeant; as
13 a Sergeant, he worked in the First Police District, where he
14 trained for six months, then was transferred to Gang Crimes
15 South, where he was responsible for supervising approximately
16 eight to ten gang specialists daily; and
 
17     WHEREAS, In January of 1993, Sergeant Thompson was
18 transferred to the Second District, where he worked in patrol
19 for five years before being transferred to Gang Crimes
20 Investigations in August of 1998; he stayed in this Unit for
21 three months and was then promoted to Lieutenant in November of
22 1998; he was assigned to Public Housing North as the Commanding
23 Officer, where he worked for two years; in June of 2000, he was
24 promoted to Commander of the Fourth Police District; he worked
25 in the Fourth District for over four years, before retiring on
26 February 15, 2005; and
 
27     WHEREAS, During his career, Commander Thompson received 28
28 complimentary citations for exceptional service to the
29 citizens of the City of Chicago, 54 Honorable Mentions for
30 exceptional performance as a police officer, one Problem
31 Solving Award, and one Unit Merit Performance Award; and

1     WHEREAS, While working full-time and raising a family, he
2 attained his Bachelor's Degree in Pre-Law and Independent
3 Studies; he has maintained his management and leadership skills
4 by attending several police structured courses at Northwestern
5 University, FBI Investigative School, Southern Police
6 Institute, and Harvard Homicide Institute; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson has been married to his wife, Evelyn
8 for over 28 years with five children and seven grandchildren;
9 he valiantly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy
10 from 1964 to 1967; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13 we congratulate Commander Lamont A. Thompson on the occasion of
14 his retirement from the Chicago Police Department after 35
15 years of service, and we thank him for his devoted service to
16 the safety and protection of the citizens of the State of
17 Illinois; and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to Mr. Thompson as an expression of our respect and
20 esteem and with best wishes for a well-earned, relaxing
21 retirement.
