HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, State Representative Monique Davis and the
3 members of the House of Representatives were saddened to learn
4 of the death of Sherlene Sherman on Saturday, March 26, 2005;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, She was born the oldest of two children in Chicago
7 on March 3, 1940, to Reuben Paige Tyler and Willa Mae Tyler;
8 she attended Felsenthal Elementary School and DuSable High
9 School; and
 
10     WHEREAS, After attending Wilson Junior College, Mrs.
11 Sherman worked for the State of Illinois, World Famous Inc.,
12 Southwest Mental Health Facility, and the Chicago Association
13 of Retarded Citizens (CARC); she truly loved her job at CARC,
14 where she performed her duties with exceptional grace; she was
15 greatly missed when she retired in February of 2004; and
 
16     WHEREAS, She married Niles Sherman on August 5, 1967; she
17 was a devoted wife to "Sherman", who later became Alderman of
18 the 21st Ward; she was fondly known as "Showdown" and loved
19 spending time with her family, especially during the holidays,
20 when she would cook big meals, play bid whist, and laugh and
21 joke until the wee hours of the morning; she also enjoyed
22 shopping for antiques while she spent time in her home in
23 Michigan, her favorite place to be; and
 
24     WHEREAS, Sherlene Sherman will be greatly missed by many
25 for the special love she showed and the beautiful woman she
26 was; her loss has been most deeply felt by her loving husband,
27 Niles Sherman; her loving and devoted children, Stephanie
28 (Timothy) Ratliff and Sheldon (Heather) Sherman; her parents,
29 Nathanial and Willa Phillips; her sister, Suzanne Tyler; her
30 grandchildren, Kennedi, Jordan, Khia, and Trinity; her
31 stepchildren, Duane (Carol) Sherman, Debra Payne, and Niles

1 Sherman Jr.; her step-grandchildren, T.K. Sherman, Phillip
2 (Tiffany) Sherman, and Eldridge (E.L.) Donelson; and her many
3 nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends; she was
4 preceded in death by her father, Reuben Paige Tyler; her
5 stepchildren, Shane Sherman and Milliane Determan; and her dear
6 friend, Sondra; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9 we mourn the passing of Sherlene Sherman, and we extend our
10 deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all who knew and
11 loved her; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to her family as an expression of our sincerest
14 condolences.
