HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Dr. Harry P. Rossi will retire as the
3 Superintendent of Schools in Northbrook/Glenview School
4 District 30 at the completion of the 2004-2005 school year; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dr. Rossi is also an Adjunct Professor of
6 Education at Loyola University Chicago where he received his
7 Doctorate of Education degree in 1985; during his career, he
8 has served in virtually every administrative capacity from
9 Assistant Principal to Superintendent of Schools; moreover, he
10 has taught at every level from elementary through the
11 university level in the Chicago area; and
 
12     WHEREAS, In addition to his Superintendent and university
13 teaching duties, he serves on many boards including ED-RED,
14 which represents the interests of over 300,000 suburban
15 children, Character Counts Coalition, Northern Suburban
16 Special Education District, and Casa de los Ninos, which builds
17 and staffs foster homes for abused and neglected Hispanic
18 children in Chicago; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Among his leadership activities, Dr. Rossi has
20 served as a President of the Illinois Association of School
21 Administrators, Character Counts Coalition Treasurer, Judge of
22 the Chicago Tribune All-State Academic Team, Fellow in the
23 Institute for Educational Leadership, and Co-Chair of the
24 Italian American Superintendents Organization; Dr. Rossi has
25 presented internationally on school leadership topics; he has
26 presented and participated at Oxford University, England, and
27 has consulted with university faculty, Ministry of Education
28 officials, and school leaders in New Zealand; and
 
29     WHEREAS, National presentations have included topics such
30 as Collaborative Decision Making, Interest-based Bargaining,
31 and Data-based Decision Making; locally, Dr. Rossi has keynoted

1 many opening day sessions for school districts and was the
2 Commencement Speaker for Loyola University School of Education
3 in May 2003; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Dr. Rossi's publications include contributions on
5 comparative education for Oxford University, monographs on
6 school funding and national standards, and op-ed pieces on
7 cronyism in schools and Character Counts themes for the Chicago
8 Sun-Times and Pioneer Press; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He is also active in lobbying in Springfield and
10 Washington D.C. for school funding and other education and
11 children's issues as a member of the American Association of
12 School Administrators Legislative Corps, and is an Associate
13 with the educational consulting firm, School Exec. Connect; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Dr. Rossi and his wife, Carol, reside in Park
15 Ridge; they have two adult children, Phillip and Elizabeth,
16 both of whom are graduates of Loyola University Chicago;
17 therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20 we thank Dr. Harry P. Rossi for his invaluable contributions to
21 public education and wish him well in his retirement and future
22 endeavors; and be it further
 
23     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
24 presented to Dr. Rossi as an expression of our admiration and
25 esteem.
