HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Gerhard (Gary) Seibert of Chicago has been named
3 area vice-president and managing director for Hawaii,
4 overseeing the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and Spa,
5 Doubletree Alana Waikiki and Hilton Waikoloa Village; a
6 farewell party is planned for Mr. Seibert on May 26, 2005; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Mr. Seibert has been serving as area
8 vice-president for Hilton Hotels Corporation and general
9 manager of the historic Palmer House Hilton since 2000; in his
10 32 years at Hilton, he has earned a first-rate reputation not
11 only for his professional contributions to the company, but
12 also as a dedicated community leader, a vocal proponent of
13 workplace diversity, and one of the industry's top authorities
14 on hospitality, tourism, and hotel operations; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Mr. Seibert received his undergraduate degree in
16 Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management from Purdue
17 University; in 1989, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award
18 from Purdue's School of Engineering and Technology at
19 Indianapolis; and
 
20     WHEREAS, He began his career at Hilton in 1973 as a front
21 desk clerk at the Indianapolis Hilton; the company gave him his
22 first general manager position in 1982 at the Northfield Hilton
23 in Troy, Michigan; in 1988, he was named general manager of the
24 Hilton Chicago and Towers, where he earned the distinction of
25 being named the Hilton General Manager of the Year for three
26 consecutive years from 1990 to 1992; in 2000, he became area
27 vice-president, Midwest Region, Hilton Hotels Corporation and
28 general manager of the Palmer House Hilton; and
 
29     WHEREAS, He has been the Illinois representative to the
30 American Hotel and Lodging Association (AH&LA) for more than
31 ten years; in addition to serving on the association's

1 executive committee for a number of years, he served on the
2 political action committee of AH&LA and the Illinois Hotel &
3 Lodging Association (IHLA); he has served as an IHLA board
4 member for 15 years, four of them in officer positions; he has
5 been vice-chairman of the IHLA's Education Foundation since
6 1994, working to distribute over $200,000 in scholarships to
7 deserving college students pursuing careers in the hospitality
8 industry; he has attended every Legislative Action Summit in
9 Washington, D.C., since its inception, and has helped lead the
10 Illinois delegation each year; he was also elected chairman of
11 the board of Chicago's Convention and Tourism Bureau in 1995
12 and 1996; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The three words that best describe Mr. Siebert are
14 "determined, tireless, and committed"; he will be relocating to
15 Hawaii with his wife, Kathryn; he has three grown sons;
16 therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19 we congratulate Gerhard (Gary) Seibert on his promotion within
20 the Hilton Hotels Corporation and wish him and his wife the
21 best in their move to Hawaii; and be it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to Gerhard (Gary) Siebert as an expression of our
24 admiration and esteem.
