HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The men and women from Illinois who ably serve our
3 country as members of the United States Armed Forces are
4 entitled to our appreciation, respect, and support; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Petty Officer Alonzo Darrell Baker, of the U.S.
6 Navy, has served his country with distinction and has recently
7 suffered losses from destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, Petty Officer Baker grew up in Calumet Park,
10 Illinois, and he graduated from Harold L. Richards High School
11 in May of 1997; after graduating from high school, he joined
12 the U.S. Navy; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Petty Officer Baker has served his country with
14 distinction; shortly after enlisting, he reported onboard the
15 USS Curtis Wilbur, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan; Petty Officer
16 Baker continued his active duty tour and received his
17 Certificate of Graduation from the Navy and Marine Corps
18 Intelligence Institution; in 2000, he reported onboard the USS
19 Kitty Hawk, America's only deployed aircraft carrier, also
20 homeported in Yokosuka, Japan; Petty Officer Baker continued
21 his intelligence career and finished in the top of his class at
22 the Naval Special Warfare Intelligence Institution; he has
23 received numerous letters and commendations during his 8-year
24 active duty tour, including 3 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement
25 medals; and
 
26     WHEREAS, Petty Officer Baker is currently stationed in
27 Mississippi, and in June of 2005, he served temporary duty in
28 Bagdad, Iraq, assisting in the current military operations in
29 that region; and
 
30     WHEREAS, While Petty Officer Baker was serving his country

1 in Iraq, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast of the
2 United States, including Petty Officer Baker's home in
3 Mississippi; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Upon returning from Iraq to aid in post-disaster
5 relief, Petty Officer Baker found that all of his personal
6 belongings had been destroyed by the hurricane; therefore, be
7 it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10 we express our appreciation, respect, and support to Petty
11 Officer Alonzo Darrell Baker and to all of the men and women of
12 the United States Armed Forces who are dedicated to the service
13 of their country; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That we urge the citizens of Illinois to take
15 action to help restore the quality of life for Petty Officer
16 Baker and others whose lives have been devastated by the recent
17 hurricanes in the Gulf Coast; and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to Petty Officer Alonzo Darrell Baker as an
20 expression of our esteem.
