HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Judge George W.
3 Timberlake will retire from his position as Chief Judge in
4 December of 2006 after 20 years of service in the Second
5 Judicial Circuit of Illinois; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Judge Timberlake earned a B.A. in political
7 science, a Juris Doctor degree, and Master of Business
8 Administration degree at the University of Illinois; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He was appointed Circuit Judge in 1985, elected in
10 2000, and is currently Chief Judge of the Second Judicial
11 Circuit; he is the Chairman of the Conference of Chief Judges
12 Juvenile Committee, a member of the Supreme Court Study
13 Committee on Juvenile Justice, and a member of the Executive
14 Committee of Governors Community Safety and Re-entry Working
15 Group; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The Second Judicial District consists of 12 rural
17 counties in the southeastern corner of the State; in his
18 capacity as Chief Judge, he supervises 19 other judges, 14
19 court reporters, 4 probation divisions with 42 employees, and
20 works closely with 12 Circuit Clerks to oversee the court
21 schedules of those counties and to keep them operating smoothly
22 and efficiently; Judge Timberlake also supervises the Franklin
23 County Juvenile Detention Center, with 45 employees; the
24 Center, under Judge Timberlake, currently operates a
25 traditional detention center, a model assessment center, and
26 will soon open a ground-breaking juvenile methamphetamine
27 treatment center; and
 
28     WHEREAS, The Second Circuit currently serves as a Redeploy
29 Illinois pilot site, a National Institute of Corrections
30 Evidence-Based Practices pilot site, and a Juvenile Detention
31 Alternatives Initiative cohort site; and

1     WHEREAS, He is a board member of the State of Illinois
2 Redeploy Oversight Board, Illinois Juvenile Justice
3 Initiative, Illinois Juvenile Detention Alternatives
4 Initiative, Illinois Balanced and Restorative Justice
5 Initiative, as well as being Chairman of the Second Judicial
6 Circuit Juvenile Justice Council; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Judge Timberlake is married to Mary Jo Dunkel, a
8 speech/language pathologist with Mt. Vernon City Schools;
9 therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12 we congratulate Judge George W. Timberlake on the occasion of
13 his retirement as Chief Judge of the Second Judicial Circuit of
14 Illinois; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Judge Timberlake as an expression of our esteem
17 and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
