HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) affect one in 166
3 people - not a small number; one could populate a large city
4 with people affected by ASD, yet most parents and providers
5 report that theirs is a solitary struggle; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Parents and providers who care for children with
7 ASD experience overwhelming feelings of frustration and
8 isolation as they search for appropriate diagnostic and
9 treatment resources; and
 
10     WHEREAS, The State of Illinois currently provides
11 resources to Autistic families such as The Autism Program (TAP)
12 and the Illinois Training and Technical Assistance Program
13 (ITTAP); and
 
14     WHEREAS, The Autism Program was created by the Illinois
15 General Assembly in response to the need for training,
16 consultation, and services for the State's growing number of
17 children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and was designed
18 to create and enhance community networks that promote best
19 practice in the diagnosis, treatment, and education of children
20 with ASD; and
 
21     WHEREAS, The Developmental Disabilities and Mental Illness
22 Committee has held hearings emphasizing the need for increased
23 services to the autism community, including increased funding;
24 and
 
25     WHEREAS, The Illinois Autism Society will be bringing
26 individuals to the Capitol to discuss these increased needs
27 with Senators and Representatives; therefore, be it
 
28     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we do hereby proclaim March 23, 2006, as Autism Parents Day at
2 the Illinois State Capitol; and be it further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the Illinois Autism Society.
