HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with regret of the death of Robert
4 John Biancalana of Elmwood Park on Thursday, March 9, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Robert John "Bobby" Biancalana, son of Helen and
6 Albert Biancalana, was born on June 27, 1947; he was raised in
7 the Village of Elmwood Park along with his brothers, Albert and
8 James Biancalana, and resided in the village his entire life;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, Mr. Biancalana graduated from St. William School
11 and Weber High School; he later served in the Illinois National
12 Guard, attended Loyola University, and graduated from
13 Washburne trade school, where he studied culinary arts; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He was a co-owner and operator of the family
15 business, Elmcrest Banquets by Biancalana, which has become a
16 landmark in Elmwood Park, providing many generations of
17 families, friends, and community members a place to gather and
18 enjoy dinner at the restaurant, a cocktail in the bar, or an
19 occasion to celebrate in the banquet facility; and
 
20     WHEREAS, He was committed to the people of Elmwood Park;
21 his involvement in the community ranged from coaching little
22 league to eventually becoming a village trustee; through the
23 years, he served as Chairman to the Citizens Safety Committee,
24 Parks and Recreation Committee, and as Chairman of the Fire and
25 Police Commission; in April of 2005, he was elected to the
26 Village Board as a Trustee and proudly served the people of his
27 town; and
 
28     WHEREAS, His passions included hunting, fishing, bike
29 riding, and a love for the outdoors, country music, and
30 politics; he was devoted to his family and the family business;

2     WHEREAS, In October of 2002, he was diagnosed with colon
3 cancer which had metastasized to his liver; he was proud and
4 determined and faced the surgeries and treatments he needed
5 without complaints; he continued to go to work, spend time with
6 his family and friends, and did not miss his annual hunting
7 trip out west; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The passing of Robert John "Bobby" Biancalana has
9 been deeply felt by all who knew and loved him; he married
10 Rosemarie (nee Small) Biancalana in August of 1992; he was the
11 father of Robert Jr., Christina (Bernard) Barbaric, and Andrea;
12 he was also the grandfather of Elena and Daniel Barbaric;
13 therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16 we mourn the passing of Robert John "Bobby" Biancalana, and we
17 extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and
18 community; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
21 sympathy.
