HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Mr. Joseph M. Gagliardo of Chicago has been named
3 a recipient of the Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Humanitarian of
4 the Year Award given by the Joint Civic Committee of Italian
5 Americans (JCCIA); and
 
6     WHEREAS, The JCCIA's Joseph Cardinal Bernardin
7 Humanitarian of the Year Award is presented annually to those
8 whose lives exemplify the virtues of caring, humanity, and good
9 will that were the hallmark of Cardinal Bernardin's tenure as
10 Archbishop of Chicago; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Mr. Gagliardo is the Managing Partner of Laner,
12 Muchin, Dombrow, Becker, Levin, and Tominberg, Ltd., and is the
13 Chair of its Litigation Department; since joining the Firm as a
14 partner in 1988, Mr. Gagliardo has been counsel to publicly and
15 privately held corporations and has represented a number of
16 public sector employers, including the State of Illinois, State
17 Treasurer, County of Cook, State's Attorney for Cook County,
18 Cook County Public Defender, City of Chicago, Chicago Transit
19 Authority, Chicago Housing Authority, Chicago Board of
20 Education, and the City Colleges of Chicago; he also serves as
21 an arbitrator in employment and commercial disputes; and
 
22     WHEREAS, He has written articles and conducted seminars on
23 labor and employment relations matters, drafted legislation,
24 and testified before the Illinois Legislature and the City
25 Council of the City of Chicago; he has been named one of the
26 Leading Lawyers in Illinois in the area of labor and employment
27 law based on a statewide survey of lawyers; Leading Lawyers
28 comprise less than five percent of all lawyers in Illinois; he
29 was also selected as one of America's Leading Lawyers for
30 Business by the Chambers USA in its Guide to America's Leading
31 Business Lawyers; he was named as one of Illinois' "Super
32 Lawyers" in labor and employment law and is an elected

1 Fellow/Member of The College of Labor and Employment Lawyers;
2 he has been included in The Best Lawyers in America, and Who's
3 Who Legal USA -- Management, Labour, and Employment; and
 
4     WHEREAS, He is a member of numerous professional
5 organizations, and his civic involvement includes serving as
6 past President of the Joint Civic Committee of Italian
7 Americans and as a current Director of Windows of Opportunity;
8 Windows is a non-profit organization that creates partnerships
9 to link all of Chicago's public and assisted housing residents
10 to resources that will improve their quality of life; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Mr. Gagliardo received his J.D. from The John
12 Marshall Law School in Chicago in 1977 and was awarded the
13 Edward T. Lee Scholarship and Bobbs-Merrill Company Prize; he
14 was also elected to the Order of John Marshall, the law honor
15 society limited to those whose scholastic records are within
16 the highest ten percent of the graduating class; he has
17 received a Distinguished Service Award from The John Marshall
18 Law School; he received a B.S. in Commerce from DePaul
19 University in 1974, graduated with High Honors, and was a
20 member of Delta Mu Delta and Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor
21 Societies; therefore, be it
 
22     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
24 we congratulate Mr. Joseph M. Gagliardo on being a recipient of
25 the Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Humanitarian of the Year Award
26 given by the Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans; and be
27 it further
 
28     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to Mr. Gagliardo as an expression of our esteem.
