HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3 members of the House of Representatives of the State of
4 Illinois are pleased to congratulate Joyce E. Bristow on the
5 occasion of her retirement as the Area Instruction Officer for
6 Area 16 of the Chicago Public Schools; and
 
7     WHEREAS, In her position, she provided professional
8 development and instructional support to 32 elementary school
9 principals, assistant principals, and leadership teams in the
10 Morgan Park, Beverly, and Roseland communities; her specific
11 responsibilities included assisting schools in utilizing
12 available resources to implement effective improvement plans
13 and working with local school councils to identify and hire the
14 best possible principals; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Under Mrs. Bristow's leadership, numerous
16 educational improvement initiatives were implemented in Area
17 16, including quarterly professional development meetings for
18 assistant principals, leadership teams, and learning
19 communities in every school, the creation of school probation
20 liaisons to conduct weekly school visits and walk-throughs, and
21 regularly scheduled high school articulation meetings with
22 elementary school principals and teachers; and
 
23     WHEREAS, Mrs. Bristow also served as Chief State Liaison
24 Officer for the Chicago Public Schools and Officer for the
25 Department of Academic Preparatory Centers, Middle Schools,
26 and C.A.R.E. program; as Chief Liaison, she represented the
27 Chief Executive Officer in direct communication with the
28 Illinois State Board of Education, serving on State committees,
29 task forces, councils, and other working groups; and
 
30     WHEREAS, Prior to serving as Area Instruction Officer, Mrs.
31 Bristow was the Executive Assistant to the Chief Education

1 Officer, and she also served as the principal of Robert A.
2 Black Magnet School; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Mrs. Bristow graduated from Harlan High School,
4 received her undergraduate degree from Tennessee State
5 University, and earned advanced degrees from Northwestern and
6 Chicago State Universities; she is a member of numerous
7 organizations, including the National Alliance of Black School
8 Educators, the National Principals Association, the
9 Association of Curriculum and Development, and the Chicago
10 Principals and Administrators Association; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13 we congratulate Mrs. Joyce E. Bristow on the occasion of her
14 retirement; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Mrs. Bristow as an expression of our esteem.
