HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3 members of the House of Representatives of the State of
4 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Cheryl Ann
5 Dennis on Sunday, July 13, 2006; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Cheryl Ann Dennis was born on August 25, 1947, in
7 New Orleans, Louisiana, to Wilfred and Nafamier Dennis; she was
8 affectionately called "Cherie"; she attended Holy Name of Mary
9 Grammar School and the Academy of Our Lady for her secondary
10 education; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Ms. Dennis received a bachelor's degree from the
12 University of Illinois, Champaign; she went on to complete a
13 Masters in Social Work at the University of Michigan, Ann
14 Arbor; she also received certificates in Clown Arts from Triton
15 College and the Clown Camp at the University of Wisconsin; and
 
16     WHEREAS, She was employed by the Louisiana School Board and
17 Charity Hospital in New Orleans; while living in New Orleans,
18 she received her journeyman papers in electronics from the
19 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers; as a licensed
20 social worker, she taught and serviced youth in the Chicago
21 Public Schools; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Ms. Dennis' clown name was "Jo-V-L", which was an
23 expression of her love of creativity with children; she also
24 enjoyed entertaining people by making animal balloons; she was
25 a fun-loving spirit with a joy of living, which led her to
26 participate in many organizations and activities; she was a
27 Center Aisle Player at St. Thaddeus Catholic Church and a choir
28 member in the church's adult choir; she was a Delta Sigma Theta
29 sorority sister; she also enjoyed exploring the world with the
30 Windy City Seals Diving Club; and

1     WHEREAS, The passing of Cheryl Ann Dennis has been deeply
2 felt by many, especially her mother, Nafamier Dennis, and the
3 Rev. James (Doretha) Edwards, Theodore (Margie) Edwards, Wilma
4 Richardson, Joyce (Matthew) Marchand, and her many loving
5 cousins and caring friends; she was preceded in death by her
6 father, Wilfred Dennis, on January 19, 1999; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9 we mourn the passing of Cheryl Ann Dennis, and we extend our
10 deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all who knew and
11 loved her; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to her family as an expression of our sincerest
14 condolences.
