    Amends the School Code. Requires a school district to provide steroid abuse prevention education to students who participate in interscholastic athletic programs.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
5 27-23.3 as follows:
 
6     (105 ILCS 5/27-23.3)  (from Ch. 122, par. 27-23.3)
7     Sec. 27-23.3. Education in steroid abuse prevention.
8 School districts shall provide instruction in relation to the
9 prevention of abuse of anabolic steroids in grades 7 through 12
10 and shall include such instruction in science, health, drug
11 abuse, physical education or other appropriate courses of
12 study. School districts shall also provide this instruction to
13 students who participate in interscholastic athletic programs.
14 The Such instruction shall emphasize that the use of anabolic
15 steroids presents a serious health hazard to persons who use
16 steroids to enhance athletic performance or physical
17 development. The State Board of Education may assist in the
18 development of instructional materials and teacher training in
19 relation to steroid abuse prevention.
