SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
110 ILCS 330/7 new
210 ILCS 85/6.22 new

    Amends the University of Illinois Hospital Act and the Hospital Licensing Act. Provides that every hospital subject to either of the Acts must screen all patients admitted to the hospital for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Provides that if a patient tests positive for MRSA, the hospital must segregate that patient from patients who test negative for MRSA and must provide treatment to that patient.

1     AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The University of Illinois Hospital Act is
5 amended by adding Section 7 as follows:
 
6     (110 ILCS 330/7 new)
7     Sec. 7. Screening patients for MRSA. The University of
8 Illinois Hospital shall screen all patients admitted to the
9 hospital for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus
10 (MRSA). If a patient tests positive for MRSA, the hospital must
11 segregate that patient from patients who test negative for MRSA
12 and must provide treatment to that patient.
 
13     Section 10. The Hospital Licensing Act is amended by adding
14 Section 6.22 as follows:
 
15     (210 ILCS 85/6.22 new)
16     Sec. 6.22. Screening patients for MRSA. Every hospital
17 shall screen all patients admitted to the hospital for
18 methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). If a
19 patient tests positive for MRSA, the hospital must segregate
20 that patient from patients who test negative for MRSA and must
21 provide treatment to that patient.
