SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, There is a need to implement health care liability
3 reforms on the federal level to: improve the availability of
4 health care services in cases in which health care liability
5 actions have been shown to be a factor in the decreased
6 availability of services; reduce the incidence of defensive
7 medicine and lower the cost of health care liability insurance;
8 ensure that persons with meritorious health care injury claims
9 receive fair and adequate compensation; impose reasonable
10 limits on noneconomic damages; improve the fairness and
11 cost-effectiveness of our current health care liability system
12 to resolve disputes over, and provide compensation for, health
13 care liability by reducing uncertainty in the amount of
14 compensation provided to injured individuals; and provide an
15 increased sharing of information in the health care system
16 which will reduce unintended injury and improve patient care;
17 therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the United
20 States Congress to enact legislation to implement health care
21 liability reforms, including reasonable limits on noneconomic
22 damages; and be it further
 
23     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be delivered to
24 each member of the Illinois congressional delegation.
