SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with sadness of the death of Raymond L. Smith of
4 McHenry on Saturday, March 12, 2005; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on February 15, 1926, in McHenry, to
6 William and Rena (Michels) Smith; a lifelong resident of
7 McHenry, he graduated with the class of 1944 from McHenry High
8 School; on May 1, 1948, he married Betty Lou Kramer at St. Mary
9 of the Assumption Catholic Church in McHenry; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Mr. Smith valiantly served his country during
11 World War II; he was a member of the Army Air Corps as a radio
12 operator and mechanic; after returning home, he worked at
13 Fitzgerald Men's Store, first on the west side of McHenry and
14 later at its Green Street store; after the men's store closed,
15 he enjoyed a 32-year career with Carey Electric, working there
16 from 1955 until retirement in 1987; and
 
17     WHEREAS, He served McHenry as an alderman from the 3rd Ward
18 for 29 years; he was a member of International Brotherhood of
19 Electrical Workers Local 117, American Legion Post 491, Order
20 of the Moose Lodge 691, St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic
21 Church in McHenry, Catholic Order of Foresters No. 594, and the
22 Legion of Honor; and
 
23     WHEREAS, He enjoyed family time with his children and
24 grandchildren, golfing, fishing, and taking long walks around
25 town; he will be best remembered for being a good friend to
26 many and for helping people with his "fix-it" skills; and
 
27     WHEREAS, The passing of Raymond L. Smith has been deeply
28 felt by many, especially his wife of 56 years, Betty Lou; his
29 daughter, Rae Ellen (Bob) Habich; his son, Randy (Greta) Smith;
30 his grandchildren, Rena (Scott) Algayer, Karin Smith, Kyle

1 Smith, and Brad Fenner; his sister, Eileen (Gene) King; and his
2 sisters-in-law, Gwen Smith and Bertha Smith; he was preceded in
3 death by four brothers, Leonard and Richard, in childhood, and
4 LeRoy and Elmer Smith; and four sisters, Emily (Joe) Freund,
5 Luella (William) Funk, and Luella and Catherine, in infancy;
6 therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9 Raymond L. Smith, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
10 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11 further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
14 sympathy.
