SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Thomas W. Birdsell of
4 Beardstown on Sunday, January 8, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born November 7, 1941, in Beardstown to
6 Fred and Maxine Armstrong Birdsell; he married Linda Lynn on
7 June 7, 1970, at the First Christian Church in Beardstown; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Birdsell graduated from Chandlerville High
9 School in 1959 and was employed at Lauder Junkyard in
10 Beardstown until he began working as a prison guard at Joliet
11 State Penitentiary from 1961 to 1963; from 1963 until 1969, he
12 was employed as a Beardstown City Police Officer, and during
13 this time also served as Beardstown Chief of Police; he was the
14 youngest chief in the State of Illinois at that time; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He worked as a drivers license examiner for the
16 Secretary of the State of Illinois from May 1969 until November
17 1969; in November 1969, he began his service as an Illinois
18 State Police Officer until his retirement in December 1998, at
19 which time he was a sergeant in Vehicle Investigation; from
20 1999 until his death, he was employed with Cass County Human
21 Resource Center; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Mr. Birdsell was a faithful member of First
23 Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and enjoyed his
24 involvement in many of the church activities; he enjoyed
25 repairing cars, traveling, and having coffee with his friends;
26 he truly loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and family
27 and deeply valued the time he spent with them; and
 
28     WHEREAS, The passing of Thomas W. Birdsell has been deeply
29 felt by many, especially his wife, Linda Lynn; his mother
30 Maxine Birdsell; his son, Travis (wife Angie) Birdsell; his

1 daughter, Tierney Birdsell; his grandchildren, Michael and
2 Madison Birdsell; his brothers, Jim (wife Christine) Birdsell
3 and Gary Birdsell; his sisters, Alma (husband Larry) Schall,
4 Carolyn (husband John) Rhea, and Pat (husband Don) Bingham; and
5 his numerous nieces and nephews; he was preceded in death by
6 his father; his brother, Fred Birdsell Jr.; his grandsons,
7 Andrew Thomas and Gregory Brandon; and his nephew, Jamie
8 Birdsell; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11 Thomas W. Birdsell, and we extend our sincere condolences to
12 his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13 further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
16 sympathy.
