SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of Joseph A. Favero of
4 Waukegan on Monday, April 17, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on December 17, 1930, in Tarentum,
6 Pennsylvania; and
 
7     WHEREAS, After graduating with Bacehlor of Arts and Master
8 of Fine Arts degrees in Music Education from Boston University,
9 he moved to Waukegan in 1955, where he taught music in the
10 public schools until he retired in 1992; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Mr. Favero was elected as a commissioner to the
12 Waukegan Park District Board in 1977, where he remained as a
13 commissioner and was currently serving as President of the
14 Board of Commissioners; and
 
15     WHEREAS, He was a member of Saint Anastasia Church where he
16 volunteered as a song leader, lector, and bingo committee
17 member; he relished Notre Dame football, and his favorite
18 professional sports teams were the Pittsburgh Steelers,
19 Pittsburgh Pirates, and Boston Celtics; and
 
20     WHEREAS, He served his country, beginning in 1954, first in
21 the 5th Army and then as Bandmaster of the 85th Division Band;
22 he held his last assignment with the 566th Air Force Band,
23 until he was honorably discharged December 15, 1990; he retired
24 to his former U.S. Army rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Mr. Favero volunteered as a tax preparer for AARP
26 for the last 10 years and supported local performing arts
27 organizations in Waukegan and Lake County; he performed with
28 the Waukegan Municipal Band and the Waukegan Symphony Concert
29 Chorus; he was honored by having a street in Bowen Park named

1 for him; he enjoyed growing and harvesting cherries from his
2 own trees and loved making cherry pies for friends; and
 
3     WHEREAS, He spent most of his free time reading, primarily
4 European history books and historical biographies; he traveled
5 extensively in retirement and took tours with WFMT and
6 Elderhostel; he enjoyed Italian cuisine so much that he became
7 an expert on the best Italian restaurants in every major city
8 in the United States; and
 
9     WHEREAS, The passing of Joseph A. Favero has been deeply
10 felt by many, especially his children, Antoinette, Timothy, and
11 Terrence; his wife, Linda; his grandchildren, Ryan and Colin;
12 and his brother, Thomas Favero, and wife, Wendy; he was
13 preceded in death by his wife, Edith Buckley Favero, and his
14 parents, Bartholomew C. and Edna Kemeza Favero; therefore, be
15 it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL
17 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18 Joseph A. Favero, and we extend our sincere condolences to his
19 family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20 further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to his family as an expression of our deepest
23 sympathy.
