10 ILCS 5/1-15 new

    Amends the Election Code. Provides that a person is not eligible for an elective public office if that person has been convicted of a felony relating to his or her duties in an elective government office.

1     AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Election Code is amended by adding Section
5 1-15 as follows:
 
6     (10 ILCS 5/1-15 new)
7     Sec. 1-15. Ineligibility of felon for public office.
8     (a) A person is not eligible for any public office who has
9 been convicted in any court located in the United States of any
10 felony relating to his or her duties in an elective government
11 office.
12     (b) As used in this Section, "public office" means an
13 office for which candidates are required to file statements of
14 economic interests under the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act.
