SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
220 ILCS 5/8-205.5 new

    Amends the Public Utilities Act. Provides that notwithstanding any other provision of the Act or any other law to the contrary, a public utility that, on December 31, 2005, served at least 100,000 electric customers in Illinois may not terminate electric service to a residential customer for nonpayment prior to December 1, 2008. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Public Utilities Act is amended by adding
5 Section 8-205.5 as follows:
 
6     (220 ILCS 5/8-205.5 new)
7     Sec. 8-205.5. Termination of utilities prior to December 1,
8 2008. Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act or any
9 other law to the contrary, a public utility that, on December
10 31, 2005, served at least 100,000 electric customers in
11 Illinois may not terminate electric service to a residential
12 customer for nonpayment prior to December 1, 2008.
 
13     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
14 becoming law.
