SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/Ch. 11 Art. V heading
625 ILCS 5/11-507 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Creates the offense of negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Provides that a person commits the offense when he or she: (1) operates a motor vehicle without the motor vehicle being covered by a liability insurance policy; and (2) causes great bodily harm to another person that was the proximate result of the driver's negligent operation of the motor vehicle. Provides that a violation is a Class A misdemeanor.

1     AN ACT concerning vehicles.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by by
5 changing the heading of Article V of Chapter 11 and by adding
6 Section 11-507 as follows:

ARTICLE V. DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED,

TRANSPORTING ALCOHOLIC LIQUOR,

AND RECKLESS DRIVING , AND NEGLIGENT OPERATION OF A MOTOR

12     (625 ILCS 5/11-507 new)
13     Sec. 11-507. Negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
14     (a) A person commits the offense of negligent operation of
15 a motor vehicle when he or she:
16         (1) operates a motor vehicle in violation of Section
17     7-601 of this Code; and
18         (2) causes great bodily harm to another person that was
19     the proximate result of the driver's negligent operation of
20     the motor vehicle.
21     (b) Negligent operation of a motor vehicle is a Class A
22 misdemeanor.
