615 ILCS 5/23c new










    Amends the Rivers, Lakes, and Streams Act.  Requires the Department of Natural Resources to evaluate the adequacy of the levee system in the State and, if insufficient, to calculate the cost of repairing the levee system.  Requires the Department to report its findings to the Governor and the General Assembly no later than March 1, 2009.  Effective immediately.

    AN ACT concerning transportation.

    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

represented in the General Assembly:

    Section 5. The Rivers, Lakes, and Streams Act is amended  by 
5
adding Section 23c as follows:

    (615 ILCS 5/23c  new)

    Sec. 23c. Levee evaluation.  The Department of Natural 
8
Resources shall evaluate the adequacy of the levee system in 
9
this State.  If the Department finds the levee system to be 
10
insufficient, the Department shall calculate the cost of 
11
repairing the levee system.

            The Department shall report its 
12
findings to the Governor and the General Assembly no later than 
13
March 1, 2009.

    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon 
15
becoming law.
