HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The men and women who serve in the military of the
3 United States have responded swiftly and selflessly whenever
4 called upon to defend our nation, placing the national
5 interests above their own; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Through service in the Armed Forces, our veterans
7 have demonstrated their drive, determination, and character;
8 and
 
9     WHEREAS, The U.S. Department of Defense operates the
10 world's largest system of specialized professional and
11 technical training schools, offering America's veterans
12 unmatched opportunities to develop valuable knowledge and
13 skills; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Today's high-tech military is staffed by superbly
15 trained men and women who combine state-of-the-art technical
16 skills with tested leadership abilities; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Veterans of active duty military service
18 constitute one of our nation's most important sources of
19 mature, responsible, and highly motivated employees; and
 
20     WHEREAS, This nation owes a great debt to its military

1 veterans, many of whom have served in the most remote and
2 volatile parts of the world at great sacrifice to themselves
3 and their families; and
 
4     WHEREAS, By hiring veterans, employers honor their debt to
5 our nation's military men and women while availing themselves
6 of proven talents and honed teamwork skills that offer immense
7 benefits to individual employers and to the larger economy of
8 the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
11 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that that the month of November in
12 2007 and each subsequent year shall be known as Hire a Veteran
13 month to recognize those brave, talented and patriotic men and
14 women who have proudly worn their country's uniform and to
15 encourage employers throughout the State of Illinois to
16 recognize the special talents of those veterans and give
17 special consideration and preference to those job applicants
18 who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States.
