HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Norma Jean White on
4 her retirement as a business agent with Teamsters Local 743;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, Norma Jean White was born in Arkansas and moved to
7 Chicago as a young girl; she attended the Chicago public
8 schools and graduated from DuSable High School and Chicago
9 Teachers College; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Norma Jean White was an elementary school teacher
11 in the Chicago public schools; she was an active member of
12 Chicago Teachers Union, Local 1 of the American Federation of
13 Teachers, where she has served in many roles, including
14 building delegate, committee chair, and executive board
15 member; and
 
16     WHEREAS, She later joined the staff of Chicago Teachers
17 Union, working as a field representative before she was elected
18 CTU financial secretary, and finally vice president; and
 
19     WHEREAS, She served on the executive board of the Illinois
20 Federation of Teachers, the American Federation of Teachers,
21 and the Chicago Federation of Labor; she represented the

1 American Federation of Teachers in international delegations
2 to promote democracy and trade unionism; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Norma Jean White is actively involved in her
4 church, St. John Church-Baptist, in Chicago at 48th and
5 Michigan; she is a strong supporter and an active member of the
6 Women's Board of the DuSable Museum of African-American
7 History; she is married to James White; they are the proud
8 parents of five, and the loving grandparents of four; she is in
9 every way a phenomenal woman; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 congratulate Norma Jean White on her retirement and wish her
13 many years of happiness, good health, and continued success;
14 and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Norma Jean White as a symbol of our esteem.
