2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate John W. Rowe, | ||||||
4 | Chairman, President, and CEO of Exelon Corporation, on being | ||||||
5 | honored for his achievements by the Illinois Holocaust Museum | ||||||
6 | and Education Center; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Rowe has led electric utilities since 1984, | ||||||
8 | consecutively serving as chief executive officer of Central | ||||||
9 | Maine Power Company, the New England Electric System, and | ||||||
10 | Unicorn Corporation (one of Exelon's predecessors); he is a | ||||||
11 | lawyer, and was general counsel of Consolidated Rail | ||||||
12 | Corporation and a partner in the firm of Isham, Lincoln, and | ||||||
13 | Beale; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Mr. Rowe is a member of the boards of directors of | ||||||
15 | Sunoco and the Northern Trust Company; he has previously served | ||||||
16 | on the boards of UnumProvident, Fleet Boston Financial | ||||||
17 | Corporation, Wisconsin Central Transportation Company, and | ||||||
18 | MidSouth Corporation; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, His civic and professional commitments include | ||||||
20 | serving as chairman of the Chicago Historical Society, chairman | ||||||
21 | of the Board of Trustees of Illinois Institute of Technology, | ||||||
22 | chairman of the Mies van der Rohe Society, and vice chairman of |

1 | The Commercial Club of Chicago; and he is a member of the Board | ||||||
2 | of Governors for Argonne National Laboratory, the Chicago Urban | ||||||
3 | League, the Field Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, | ||||||
4 | Northwestern University, the Edison Electric Institute, the | ||||||
5 | Nuclear Energy Institute, the Chicago Club and the visiting | ||||||
6 | committees of the Oriental Institute and the University of | ||||||
7 | Pennsylvania Museum; and

8 | WHEREAS, Mr. Rowe has previously been chairman of the | ||||||
9 | Edison Electric Institute, president of the USS Constitution | ||||||
10 | Museum, and chairman of the Massachusetts Business Roundtable; | ||||||
11 | he is also a member of the board of the Wisconsin Alumni | ||||||
12 | Research Foundation, WiCell Research, and has received the | ||||||
13 | university's Distinguished Alumni Award; he holds honorary | ||||||
14 | doctorates from DePaul University, Illinois Institute of | ||||||
15 | Technology, Drexel University, University of | ||||||
16 | Massachusetts-Dartmouth, and Bryant College; and

17 | WHEREAS, Mr. Rowe received the Executive of the Year Award | ||||||
18 | from the University of Arizona Eller College of Management in | ||||||
19 | 2007, the Founder's Award for Business Leadership from The | ||||||
20 | Union League of Philadelphia in 2005, a Civic Leadership Award | ||||||
21 | from the American Jewish Committee in 2004, the City Club of | ||||||
22 | Chicago's Citizen of the Year award in 2002, the Corporate | ||||||
23 | Leadership Award from the Spanish Coalition for Jobs in 2002, | ||||||
24 | and the Anti-Defamation League's World of Difference award in |

1 | 2000; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Mr. Rowe has chaired fund raising events for the | ||||||
3 | Chicago Urban League, the Spanish Coalition For Jobs, El Valor, | ||||||
4 | the Merit School of Music, the Illinois Institute of | ||||||
5 | Technology, the Chicago History Museum, and the Cosmopolitan | ||||||
6 | Chamber of Commerce; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Rowe holds a Bachelor's degree and a Juris | ||||||
8 | Doctor degree from the University of Wisconsin and its law | ||||||
9 | school, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of | ||||||
10 | the Coif; and he is the founder of the Rowe Professorship in | ||||||
11 | Byzantine history; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Mr. Rowe is married to Jeanne M. Rowe and has one | ||||||
13 | son, William, and they reside in Chicago; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
15 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
16 | congratulate Mr. Rowe for his many achievements and wish him | ||||||
17 | continued success in his future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to John W. Rowe as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
20 | esteem.
