HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4 States Army Staff Sergeant Robert J. Miller of Wheaton, who was
5 killed while serving in Afghanistan on January 25, 2008; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Robert Miller was a 2002 graduate of Wheaton North
7 High School, where he was a member of the gymnastics team; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Robert Miller worked in special
9 forces as a weapons sergeant; he was assigned to Company A, 3rd
10 Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group Airborne, based in Fort
11 Bragg, North Carolina; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Robert Miller attended the University of Iowa
13 after his high school graduation; in August of 2003, he
14 enlisted in the United States Army as a special forces
15 candidate and became a Green Beret in 2005; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2006 and was
17 promoted to Staff Sergeant; he was awarded the Army
18 Commendation Medal with Valor for courage in the face of the
19 enemy; he also received eight other medals, including the Army
20 Good Conduct Medal, two Noncommissioned Officer Professional
21 Development ribbons, the Ranger Tab, and the Special Forces

2     WHEREAS, The passing of Robert Miller will be deeply felt
3 by his parents, Philip and Maureen Miller; his brothers,
4 Thomas, Martin, and Edward; and his sisters, Joanna, Mary,
5 Therese, and Patricia; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 mourn, along with his family, friends, and a grateful nation,
9 the passing of United States Army Staff Sergeant Robert J.
10 Miller; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Staff Sergeant Robert
12 Miller and his willingness to serve our country which led to
13 him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of United States Army Staff Sergeant
16 Robert J. Miller as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
