HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jeffery
4 Porter "Jake", who passed away on December 24, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jeffery Porter was born on February 1, 1970 in
6 Chicago; his parents were Leroy and Evg. Runetta Porter; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Jeffery Porter accepted Christ at an early age; he
8 was baptized at Freewill Missionary Baptist Church by Dr. Lee
9 H. Ivy; he later joined God's Holy Ghost Mission, remaining
10 there until 1980, when he became a member of the Jesus Christ
11 Holy Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of his
12 grandfather, Dr. Reverend Archie Matlock, Sr., remaining there
13 until his passing; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Jeffery Porter graduated from Austin High School
15 in 1988; he also studied courses to be an auto mechanic at
16 Truman College; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Jeffery Porter worked as a night superintendent
18 for the Park Forest school district; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Jeffery Porter enjoyed working at the Jesus Christ
20 Holy Missionary Baptist Church; he was a member of the usher

1 board, choir, Brotherhood Department, J.C. Ensemble, and the
2 administration department; he also rendered his services to the
3 church as a deacon; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Jeffery Porter enjoyed spending time with his
5 family and friends; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Jeffery Porter is survived by his parents; his
7 grandparents, Dr. Reverend Archie Matlock, Sr. and Lethea Mae
8 Porter; his brothers, Reverend Leroy III (Tjuana) and James
9 Porter; his sisters, Tanicka Sanders, 1st Lt. Krystal,
10 Lashawnda, and Maria Porter; his uncles, James (Mary) Porter
11 and his favorite, Deacon Lathel (Patrice) Matlock; his aunts,
12 Patricia Matlock, Janice Wilson, Shirley (Jesse) Wilerford,
13 and Delphine Porter; his loving fiancee, Tanisha Travis; his
14 cousins, Litanya, Evtrece, Tamara, Trinetta, Joseph, Taquila,
15 and Tiara; his godmother, Sister M. Stowers; his godchildren,
16 Ashante' (Booka), Tamiya, and Kamren; his dearest cousin,
17 Anthony Matlock (Jevon); his playbrothers, Michael Lewis and
18 LaShawn Travis; and a host of great-uncles, great-aunts,
19 nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, other relatives, and
20 members of his Jesus Christ Church Family; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Jeffery Porter will be remembered by all who knew
22 and loved him as a helpful person who loved life to the
23 fullest; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3 mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
4 Jeffery Porter; and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to the family of Jeffery Porter as an expression of
7 our sympathy.
