2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John | ||||||
4 | "Jack" McHale, who passed away on December 18, 2007; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Jack McHale was born on October 3, 1917, in | ||||||
6 | Philadelphia, the son of Harry P. and Susie Murphy McHale; Jack | ||||||
7 | married Catherine C. Tracy on Oct. 4, 1945, in Seymour; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Jack McHale was a 1940 graduate from LaSalle | ||||||
9 | College in Philadelphia; after graduation, he enlisted in the | ||||||
10 | Army Air Corps where he trained in Florida; he then transferred | ||||||
11 | into the United States Navy Midshipmen Class, later becoming an | ||||||
12 | officer and teaching Aircraft Recognition at Ohio State | ||||||
13 | University and then the University of Illinois; he was then | ||||||
14 | ordered to the battleship USS Massachusetts, part of the Third | ||||||
15 | Fleet, fighting in the South Asian Campaign, until the end of | ||||||
16 | World War II; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Jack McHale farmed after moving to the Ivesdale | ||||||
18 | area, and later worked for the Illinois Commerce Commission and | ||||||
19 | later for the Illinois Secretary of State for 27 years; he was | ||||||
20 | a Democratic precinct committeeman for over 50 years and | ||||||
21 | township assessor for Colfax and Sadorus townships; he ran | ||||||
22 | unsuccessfully for State senator and twice for State |

1 | representative, during which time he was the Democratic | ||||||
2 | chairman for Champaign County; and he served on the Bement | ||||||
3 | school board for 17 years; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Jack McHale was a 50-plus-year member of the | ||||||
5 | Albert Parker American Legion Post 620, VFW in Tolono, and past | ||||||
6 | Grand Knight, 4th Degree and Faithful Navigator of Ivesdale | ||||||
7 | 1047 Knights of Columbus, 4-H leader, and softball coach; he | ||||||
8 | was a past member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church in | ||||||
9 | Seymour, and a longtime member of the St. Joseph's Catholic | ||||||
10 | Church in Ivesdale, where he served as lecturer and Eucharist | ||||||
11 | minister; and | ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his | ||||||
13 | brother, Father Raymond McHale; and his daughters, Francine | ||||||
14 | McHale and Pauline Howes; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, John McHale is survived by his wife, Catherine; | ||||||
16 | his children, Maureen Airsman, Justine (Dennis) Nelson, | ||||||
17 | Michael (Joann) McHale, Christine (David) Marker, Antonine | ||||||
18 | (Neal) Thompson, Norine (Randy) Betz, Mark (Melinda) McHale, | ||||||
19 | John (Margaret) McHale, Celine (Chris) Walsh, Irene McHale, | ||||||
20 | James Brendan (Karen) McHale, and Jeanniene (Tim) Walsh; his | ||||||
21 | thirty-five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and | ||||||
22 | his sister, Marie O'Donnell; therefore, be it

1 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
2 | NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
3 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John | ||||||
4 | "Jack" McHale; and be it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of John "Jack" McHale as a symbol of | ||||||
7 | our sincere sympathy.
