HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the citizens of
4 Chapin as they celebrate the sesquicentennial of the village;
5 and
 
6     WHEREAS, In September of 1848, Horace Chapin came from
7 Massachusetts and settled in Morgan County; he wrote his
8 brother, Lyman, back east and told him to move the family to
9 Morgan County, and they arrived in November of 1848; they spent
10 their first winter in Jacksonville, and in the spring bought
11 the Seth Wetherbee farm; and
 
12     WHEREAS, The brothers were later joined by their mother and
13 younger brothers; the brothers later decided to lay out a town
14 near the Wabash railroad, and asked the superintendent of the
15 Wabash line what they should name the community; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He promptly said "Chapin" and the little village
17 was born; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The citizens of Chapin will celebrate the
19 sesquicentennial of the village during Chapin Big Country Days
20 in August of 2008; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3 congratulate the citizens of Chapin as they celebrate the
4 sesquicentennial of the village and wish them the best in the
5 future; and be it further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to John Williams, Village Board President of the
8 Village of Chapin, as a symbol of our respect.
