HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize and congratulate Mary
4 Morris as she steps down as City Clerk for Evanston after 11
5 years of outstanding service; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mary Morris began her career at the City of
7 Evanston in 1985 working in Facilities Management; she was
8 appointed Deputy Clerk in 1989 and was elected City Clerk in
9 1997; and
 
10     WHEREAS, As the City of Evanston's only full time elected
11 official, Mary Morris was charged with producing the official
12 minutes of all City sponsored meetings, processing all
13 ordinances and resolutions, keeping permanent records in the
14 municipal library, updating the municipal code, acting as the
15 custodian of books, records, and papers of both the City of
16 Evanston and Evanston Township, issuing notices of regular and
17 special meetings of the City Council and of Evanston Township,
18 and communicating all petitions and other communications
19 addressed to the City Council at Council meetings; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Mary Morris recognized that as the City Clerk she
21 could provide the first point of access into local government
22 and act as a resource center for many Evanston residents; and

1     WHEREAS, Under Mary Morris' leadership, the City Clerk's
2 office went beyond the call of duty to provide notary services,
3 process Freedom of Information Act requests, and offer State
4 forms; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mary Morris managed to juggle all of her duties as
6 the City Clerk and yet still found time to be a leader in the
7 Evanston community by serving on the board of Lake Street
8 Church and the MacDowell Society of the North Shore; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Mary Morris is currently serving as President of
10 the Eagle Building Board of Directors, a self-managed
11 residential co-op in south Evanston; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14 extend our gratitude to Mary Morris for all her years of
15 service and wish her the best in the future as she continues to
16 be an invaluable member of the Evanston community; and be it
17 further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to Mary Morris as an expression of our esteem.
